Сегодняшний вечер принес то, чего от него никто не ожидал - фройляйн на ровном месте родила эссе о Вкусной и Здоровой Пище. Чем не могу не поделиться со всеми вотпрямщас и вотпрямздесь:)

Предыстория, или представление действующих лиц. Кэрри, юная барышня (или, раз уж на то пошло, некто, удачно притворяющийся очаровательной юной барышней;) приехала в загадочный город Пфорцхайм на земле Гете и Гейне постигать тайны менеджмента и/или маркетинга услуг *Кэрри, я правильно написала? Я же ни разу не экономист, ты это знаешь* Итак, оказавшись совсем одна в незнакомом городе, наша героиня номер раз столкнулась с извечной проблемой Еды, о чем и написала в свой ЖЖ. Через какой-то промежуток времени к делу подключается Шандричка, наша героиня номер два. Шандричка также любит, когда ее принимают за юную барышню, а при вопросе о возрасте кокетливо и загадочно хлопает ресницами. Правда, последнее время Шандричке довелось часто и усиленно притворяться самыми разнообразными существами и предметами, из-за чего окружающим понятно, что за маской юной барышни номер два скрывается некто как минимум вроде той самой нимфы Фетиды. Итак, в дальнейшей копипасте Шандричка будет срывать покровы делиться некоторыми из своих хозяйственных секретов и жизненных установок.

While I am supposed to be writing another case study - this time ophthalmologic, a case of cataract - I, as usual, can't help being distracted with all sorts of things. I've been surfing internet for nothing special - and then stumbled across this.

That's a Barbara Hambly's novel titled "Renfield"! The following are several quotes from this decent review:

"The conceit is that it takes place during the original novel, where Renfield (and spoiler alert, if you’re just dying to read a book that’s over 100 years old and don’t want it to be spoiled) is killed. Hambly comes up with a story where Renfield survives in a rather vampiric way, and this is his story.

As Dracula is coming to set up a new abode and harem, his wives aren’t exactly happy, and they find Renfield before Dracula bothers. Thus, when Dracula kills him, as in the original, he’s still alive (sort of) to tell the tale."

Personally I find that pretty intriguing - even though I never felt a thing to Renfield (actually, I loathe and despise this sort of characters) - this story, said to be written in old-fashioned Stoker-like style must be much to my liking. And Hambly... Her dilogy about the Ashers is my kind of an ideal novel!

Maybe that's not that good - it can't have much originality, for it seems to be following the general plot, it must be nice.
"The book certainly is not a masterpiece and will never be high on my list of favorite Hambly books, but the prose and interesting method of storytelling will keep your attention long enough to finish, and enjoy, the book."

The next thing I need is to stumble across the book itself...

Many people have already noticed that the new Graz album of the musical ‘Dracula’ “really devours the brain”. I am no exception. Thomas Borchert, ah!... (many more sighs and kisses) How does he utter this or that phrase with his deep voice, now cruel and cynical – and now tender and loving… Now I really wish to have his solo album. Uwe Kröger ist “Hämmer”, as always – only he in the role of van Helsing could defeat such a Dracula as Borchert. All others are also quite nice, especially Carolin Vasicek… But now closer to the topic.
As it turned out in chantfleuri’s journal that there are no German lyrics for it in the net, I decided to try taking down the words while listening to the songs. I put in square brackets [] both pasages in which I have the slightest doubt and the passages in which I don't understand anything. As I can grasp only several phrases, I hope that other people might find out the real spelling of several others. Brainstorming usually brings fantastic results! And then someone may pick up another song…

Returning from the Annual Euroanaesthesia Meeting, my parents, following a tradition, brought me "some special sweets, difficult to find in Ukraine". This time it was a really big pack of Haribo gummies. Haribo gummies are usually bears. But my parents found something especially for me - liquorice bats! They definitely knew what to choose)

I also discovered this time that liquorice, a usual product in English-speaking countries, always translated as "лакрица" is nothing but Radix Glycyrrhizae, widely known and consumed chez nous as солодковый корень. Why should it be so?
