Ukrainierin in München

So - I am now quite on my own in this marvellous city! I am here on a two-week German language course at Goethe-Institut, but that takes place only from half past eight to a quarter to one, and only five days a week, so I have so much free time!

I am placed in a Mädchen (for girls) guesthouse called Caritas Wohnheim, that's in Herzogspitalstraße, 7 - only some blocks from Marienplatz, the main Place in Munich. Goethe-Institut in Sonnenstraße, 25 is only in five minutes walk. I have a single room with all furniture one should need, but only a washbasin of all conveniences. However, it does have two mirrors! - after rereading Stoker's "Dracula" I was very anxious to check their presence. There's a kitchen in the corridor where I cook my hot porridge every morning. And even a commonly used fridge with - ah, that's so funny! - many deposit safes, as in bank. Fancy having a separate key for your safe in the fridge!

My flight - my first flight alone - was fantastic. Lufthansa is so nice for a company! I arrived very early on Sunday morning - just as the guesthouse was opening. So I was shown everything by the hostess herself. I am leaving on the second floor of a cottage in the yard, and I was really glad to learn that my enormous set of keys allows me to open the gate and all the doors in any time of day or night. On Sunday I was mostly walking around the downtown, so I became completely exhausted.

On Monday we had our first lesson - most people from our group are Italian, then there are two Frenchmen, a Scottish lady, a Canadian lady, a Norwegian and a girl from Moscow. Yesterday we had a walking guided trip around the town - in German for sure, and I was very glad to understand it completely. In the evening I had supper (typisches Essen, Schweinewürstchen und Sauerkraut und Weißbier) at the biggest Biergarten in a park called Hirschgarten. And today just after the lesson our whole group went to Englischer Garten also to walk and dine there.

And to finish: even before boarding the plane it occured to me that the song "Blut" which is now haunting me, as its performer himself would, can suit me so well! One should only sing "Deutschland" instead of "England" - and then I am also coming "Auf ins fremde Land, auf ins neue Land", "Ohne Wehmut und Reue"... and the lines "Wie ihre fremde Unbekannt bin ich mit Taten und mit Namen", "Hier begegnen die Leute mir mit Argwohn und Liest"! Really, the thought that I am a mysterieux personage from Eastern Europe makes me kinda intoxicated and euphoric.

München is a lovely city! I've already been there and I loved it. But it's so expensive! O.O

Make sure to also visit the huge Hugendubel bookstore at the Marienplatz. ;)

Surely I will! Have already visited the Beck music store at the same place - have never seen so many opera and musical recordings together! Unfortunately they had neither the Wien, nor the Budapest recording of "Jekyll and Hyde"... I shall start looking for both of them when I get home. HOwever, I am going to buy a three-CD set of German musical stars.

That's also some of your doing!) - I mean me seeing vampires everywhere. Just everywhere... Imagine, I've bought me some creamy cheese and when I returned home I found it contained Knoblauch... as well as half the dishes at a Greek cuisine restaurant where I've decided to have supper on my first day...
But actually - yes, I have always fancied myself "a very mysterious personality from Eastern Europe", probably even with some aristocratic pride:)

I'm happy you like it! I believe Munchen is great, I wish one day I visit this city.
I thought aboout language courses too, I mean - next year, - but now I think I will chose a vacation by the seaside... But I haven't decided yet.

Here we are told that probably we'll be taken to Bavarish lakes to swim there... and our teacher also advised us to swim in the Eisbach in Englischer Garten, although it's in fact forbidden, for it's really dangerous (the stream is very fast) and last year an Australian really died there...
As for the courses, they are much fun. And I wish someone were there who likes musicals and/or vampires... for I get so many interesting associations and allusions any minute, and no one to share them with...

Is there so warm that you can swim? Lakes are usually not so warm, especially in mountins... or not?

Sure I will! But it's the very same Goethe-Institut as in Moscow or any other town, where they have Abteilungen. HOwever, as they're not going to tell you any details or how it would be like - I would be happy to share my impressions.

And as for my associations... They are mostly not so interesting for me to remember them. Mostly it's like that: I hear or utter myself some word - and then I can continue it with further words from some musical line. For example, on all Mineralwasser bottles I buy is written something like "frische Quelle" - and the very phrase makes me laugh. And then today we were talking about Bündnis... and I had some particular Bündnis in mind ("Es erneuert uns're Bündnis" - here).
And then yesterday I saw some luxurious boutique called "Tod's" - and in the "vitrinen" (I don't know how does one say this) there were fashionable lady's high-heeled shoes with also this "Tod's" on them... So does der Tod have special costumes and shoes for his passions? Is this also like "Herr Graf schenkt mich prächrige Sachen"? )))

About musical associations: at the very beginning of studing French I was in love (really so, not just 'liked') with Notre Dame de Paris and knew all libretto by heart - so most of my vocabulary was from there :)

I also know "Notre" libretto - the musical became popular in our country while I was still studying the language. I still can sing so much...

Well, I do advise it to you - so interesting! And Goethe-Institut has branches in Poland - in Warsaw at least for sure. My next-door neighbour, for instance, is Polish, from Belostok (or how it is properly written...)

YOu know, I usually is too tired and/or lazy... I take mostly photos of funny things. My parents were already in Munich and they told me something like "Ah, we have already so many pictures with buildings... bring us only pictures with your pretty face..." All in all, I'd better take pictures from Wikipedia - they are professionally made and offer a much better view of Munich sights.

To be sure! But still I need someone to make pictures of me... And I'm mostly roaming around the city alone (yeah, so pathetic and decadent...) And you never know about the cameraman abilities of the one you ask... Some people aren't able even to focus properly!
