Gastronomical:)
20 February 2009 20:18Just two things which made my day - so I think I should share them and those emotions:) Especially worth sharing is the second one:)
Firstly, "Someone who likes me very much has been to Austria and brought me ..." (c) - a lot of sweets, difficult to get in Ukraine (or, in many cases, impossible). Lots of marzipans (none of those in Ukraine, remember?) - even in my tempo there'll pass more than a week until I am finished with them). And - the most fantastic bar of chocolate I ever tasted - Lindt with mango jam and cayenne pepper! Ah, this properly dark chocolate, and this combination of really, ehrm, pepperish, pepper which makes you gasp to get some air and tender sweet jam... why, oh why was there but one bar of it?
Secondly, and most important. Remember me having that nasty cough and imagining how to treat it to continue with my vocal studies as soon as possible? I've been on liquorice syrup recently - I just loved it in my childhood, and remember it being much helpful, so I got some bottles from the drugstore. So now, the point isn't that it seems to have helped again (for yesterday I sang not really well, but at least I didn't burst out coughing in the middle of the musical phrase; I didn't feel any pain or strain while singing either) - today I invented a new Unicum cocktail! I think, it must be not a bad idea at all - as long as Unicum is a herbal decoct itself, surely good for cough and sore throat, etc.
It's very simple - just join them 1:1. For example, 10 ml Unicum Zwack and 10 ml liquorice syrup. Or 15 and 15 ml.
In case in English speaking countries liquorice syrup is something different from this popular anti-cough mixture in former Soviet Union territories, here's its contents from the back of the bottle:
- Extractum radicis Glycyrrhizae spissum (I'd better leave Latin - not sure for the proper English here; anyway, that's the extract of liquorice roots) - 4 grams
-Sugar syrup - 86 grams
-90% ethanol - 10 grams - making the bottled product contain 9% of it.
